Background

The White paper on post-FSAP, published on the 5th December 2005, presents the new financial services strategy of the Commission for the next 5 years. The Commission is of the opinion that the FSAP has been a great success but that more should be done in order to induce more economic and employment growth.

The Commission has five priorities for the post-FSAP:

- Consolidation, implementation and enforcement of existing rules,

- Use of "better regulation" principle as policy making principle

- Enhancement of supervisory convergence,

- More competition between providers, especially in retail markets,
