Kent MEP Congratulates Chatham Dockyard

5.06.23pm UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 30th Nov 2005

Kent MEP Sharon Bowles has written to Admiral Sir Ian Garnett, Chairman of Chatham's Historic Dockyard Trust to congratulate them on winning the European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage. The announcement was made earlier this week that the dockyard had won this prestigious award.

Sharon Bowles said "I was delighted to see that this wonderful venture has been given such recognition. Chatham is often over-looked as a tourist attraction in Kent, and it is high time that the town's many excellent highlights were brought to people's attention."

"It is clear that the depth of information, the range of attractions and the high level of enjoyment experienced by visitors to the dockyards bowled the judges over. This is a well deserved award and I hope it marks a new wave of interest and excitement about Chatham and its dockyards."
